I was involved in an automobile accident on december 20th. I am still injured, my neck and back are killing me and there is no way i can work. I had no job at the time of the accident, but i was looking for a job. I live in new jersey, and before the accident, i had a job around 2 months before if that matters.
I need some way to get a steady paycheck, i wish i could work, but i am in severe pain. My lawyer said they won’t settle for a while probably, so i need to get to work so i can pay my bills. PLEASE help, can i get money from disability, unemployment, anything? please help i’m only 19

You can’t get unemployment if you’re unable to work. You don’t qualify for disability insurance, if you have no lost wages, because you weren’t working. You’re going to have to sell stuff on ebay or something.

Or, you can ask your parents for money.

How were you supporting yourself before the accident? Disability is for wage loss replacement but you need to have a wage to replace. You might need to apply for social aid while your lawyer figures things out. Good luck!

~~Apply for the disability. You have to earn a certain amount of money in previous quarters to qualify and if you worked 2 months prior to the injury then you probably qualify. So apply and you will find out. You definitely can draw UI until you are able to work again, so I would certainly apply.~~

When I last worked in New Jersey, I read that a person who become disabled while receiving unemployment there could collect disability. I am not sure if that applies if you were not working and were not collecting unemployment, or if you had to be doing at least one of the two.

Also, that was seven years ago, so things may have changed.
