Best information and tips about injury claim car accident, automobile accident lawyers and personal injuries claim

Last summer me and a couple of my family members were involved in a car accident. Since then our lawyer has been working out all of these papers making sure the car insurance pays for the hospital bills. Our lawyer set a lawsuit against the other insurance company and every person in the car accident was supposed to get 30,000 dollars. But now the lawyer is saying that because I am not 18 I cannot receive my money. SO they have to put it in a bank account and I can only access it when I’m 18. What’s up with that? If this is true cant my mom just be my representative and take the money for me and then just give it to me? My mom is the one dealing with all this stuff and she doesn’t like to talk about it a lot so I was hoping someone here could help me.
I was planning on using part of the money to go visit my father in Spain. Is that wrong?

  1. The Professor says:

The lawyer is giving you the straight scoop. The dollars will be entrusted to a responsible adult or trustee (like a bank) who can be trusted to use the dollars for your benefit.

If your mother were the trustee and just gave you the money so you could blow it on video games and parties, she would be violating her duties and could be called to account by the court.

The judge will decide to whom the dollars may be entrusted, and they will remain in trust until you turn 18. Until then, the money can be spent on your behalf, but only as the trustee directs.
