i was in a car accident and was reffered to an attorney by a friend. before i got the attorney my broker had tould me that my insurance was going to pay for the hospital bills and the other cars insurance was going to pay for the repair to the car. my QUESTION IS how do i know what mya ttorney settled for? and if he is going to to through my insurance to pay for the medical bills and the other insurance to pay for the repair to the vehicle and the money for my pain n suffering? or is he gonna just go for a total amount from the other insurance company to pay for everything. Ask your attorney – that’s what he makes the big bucks for! You should have signed an agreement with the attorney that explained in MILLIONS of words just what he is going to do to you, er, uh, I mean FOR you.
You can rest assured that he is going to get you everything that he can coming to him, er, uh, I mean to you.
Remember that an insurance policy has "fixed limits" of coverage – so, if the policy had a maximum amount of coverage of , say, $20,000 and your attorney ends up getting 40% plus expenses – do the math. Doesn’t leave much to pay bills with.
I guess you should ask your friend that referred you. Maybe you should have dealt with your insurance agent/broker first.
Now, your insurance agent/broker CANNOT assist YOU in any way due to your attorney involvement.
Good luck and I hope this helps!

If you are party to a case, you have an absolute right to know this; but the attorney might not tell you if you don’t ask. He cannot legally settle without your informed consent. Remember that your attorney works for *YOU* and has to keep you informed.

Your attorney negotiates the settlement, YOU SIGN THE PAPER. So, read the paper.
Or ask him.

Ask your attorney what the final settlement was and what it included. He cannot withhold this from you! Your attorney cannot settle your claim without your consent. YOU have to sign the final release of settlement paperwork. Also, some states, CT, RI and now MA require the insurer to send the claimant a letter advising them that the settlement check was issued and for what amount.
