I got into a car accident backing up outside my house. The cop gave me a ticket for improper backing and the person that I hit already filed for my insurance to pay. I requested a trial because the cop told me that he would dismiss the case and therefore the ticket if asked for a trial.

My question is how does the trial work and how is it dismissed?
Do I need a lawyer or anything like that?
I figure that the person that I hit wouldn’t come since she already got the money to get her car fixed and she didn’t get a ticket so there wouldn’t be any reason for her to come…

Be as detailed as possible. THANKS

The officer cannot "dismiss" the ticket. Your only chance is to plead Not Guilty and go to traffic court. Since you were backing up, you will lose and add court costs to the fine. The person you hit will not be asked to come to court.
