Without an attorney you are out of luck. Always call a lawyer before you call an ambulance.

There is not a specific answer to your question as each case is different. First a lot depends on the insurance policy limits that the responsible person and you have as those will limit how much you can collect. Second it depends on the extent and seriousness of the injury and the effect that the injury has on the injured persons life. You will not settle until the doctor releases you from treatment or says there is nothing else they can do to correct your problems. Once that is done then the insurance company will evaluate your situation, review your medical records and bills and make an offer of settlement. Since you have obtained the services of an attorney the offer will be presented to him and he will then discuss it with you. Per your contingency agreement with the attorney,he will get 1/3 of your settlement amount for his fee and you will get 2/3 and have to pay all the medical bills out of that. Good Luck on you injury recovery.
